Scandal's Joe Morton Discusses His Early Film Brother From Another Planet

Director John Sayles and actor Joe Morton attended a screening of Sayles’s cult classic film The Brother From Another Planet at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) in Brooklyn, New York, recently.

Morton, who currently plays the remorseless father of Kerry Washington’s character Olivia Pope – Rowan Pope – in Shonda Rhimes and ABC’s popular television series Scandal, discussed his role in the film. Sayles, who wrote and directed Brother From Another Planet, talked about the challenges of getting an independent film made at that time – challenges that have only grown since 1984 when the movie first premiered and became a runaway hit.

The Q&A was moderated by filmmaker Warrington Hudlin, known for making his own headway in the indie film world, with films such as House Party.
